Job Description Summary:

The University of Kansas Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (KU ADRC) is a National Institute of Aging P30-designated national leader in AD research with the vision to impact the lives of every patient and family dealing with Alzheimer's in the region and across the state of Kansas through our research, education, and clinical care. We are a comprehensive center at the forefront of clinical trials, lifestyle intervention trials, drug and translational research, and basic science research. Our research enables us to also provide leading edge clinical care and support for dementia caregivers. In addition, we provide a wide variety of both public education and training opportunities for the workforce of tomorrow.

A position is available for a highly motivated Research Associate in the University of Kansas Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (KU ADRC) at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC). Candidates will have the opportunity to work with Dr. Heather Wilkins at the KU Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (KU ADRC) and other investigators at KUMC. The appointee will be extensively involved in studies of bioenergetics and mitochondria using cell culture, rodent, and human biospecimen materials.

Job Description:

Job Duties Outlined:

Participate in further training when necessary to accomplish a goal.

Function under the supervision of the scientific director of the biomarker core.

Plan, multi-task, and complete projects on an independent level.

Design and execute experiments, analyze data, and contribute to the preparation of manuscripts for scientific publications.

Participation in manuscript development and submission.

Invoice for core activities, tracking core users, and ordering supplies.

Implement and execute laboratory studies as defined and approved by the scientific director.

Train core users and students in methods and use of equipment.

Deliver biological specimens from the CRC/Landon Center to Hemenway building and process biological specimens for biomarker measures.

Assist with study start-up and execution.

Perform mitochondrial isolation and mitochondrial respiration measures.

Required Qualifications

Education: Master's degree, experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Work Experience:

Experience with laboratory techniques.

Experience in standard molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, cell culture, and rodent experiments.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Doctorate-level degree, experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Skills

Communication skills with a scientific audience.

Teaching skills.

Attention to detail, multitasking.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
