The University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, invites applications for a Research Scientist position to support the research program of Dr. Zhenqi Liu. This position offers an opportunity to be part of a dynamic research team conducting cutting-edge investigations in insulin action, muscle and vascular biology, and metabolism. Responsibilities: Design and independently execute laboratory-based research studies on muscle metabolism and vascular biology. Perform in vivo rodent experiments, cell culture, molecular biology, and confocal microscopy. Supervise and mentor research trainees, including postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduates. Collaborate with Dr. Liu and other lab members on research design, data analysis, and manuscript preparation. Present findings at internal seminars and national conferences. Develop independent research projects and pursue external funding opportunities. Minimum Qualifications: Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in biomedical sciences or a related field or master's degree with significant experience. Preferred Qualifications: Extensive experience in metabolic and vascular biology research. Proficiency in in vivo experimentation with rodent models. Skilled in advanced molecular and cellular biology techniques, including confocal microscopy. Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor research personnel. Strong publication record as first or senior author in peer-reviewed journals. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Physical Demands This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
