Salary Range: Up to $61,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Hours: 40 hours per week, exempt.

Essential Functions

Job Summary

Conduct highly specialized, independent research at an advanced level, with wide latitude for creativity in both theoretical and experimental applications.

This is a grant-funded position with expected funding for 2 years. This position may be extended or shortened based on availability of funds and/or departmental need.

Core Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing research analysis and interpretation and/or for initiating and developing applications of equipment and procedures of a nonstandard nature.
  • Consults with and assists key members of research staff in solving specific problems encountered by project members.
  • Consults with research staff regarding plans for research designs and the development of instrumentation for data collection.
  • Advises staff regarding statistical analysis techniques and procedures.
  • Participates in the interpretation of research findings and in the preparation of reports of final results to the directors of the organization
  • Participates in preparing written and oral reports to supporting agencies.
  • Evaluates the work of junior research staff.
  • Attends meetings, seminars, and symposia in related fields of research.
  • Presents papers and publishes results of research projects.
  • Assists in the preparation of grant and budget proposals.
  • Promotes safety and environmental protection by immediately reporting unsafe situations, spills, and accidents; following University safety plans/procedures/protocols; and participating in appropriate safety training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in any field of study.
  • Four (4) years of related research experience.
  • A Ph.D. can be substituted for four years of experience.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UTSA and its infrastructure.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the use and design of specialized research equipment as used in this field.
  • Ability to modify existing equipment or design new equipment as required.
  • Knowledge of standard office equipment.

Physical Demands:

  • Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required, only occasionally.
  • Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.

This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
