Position Summary
The Chen Lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is seeking a short-term, non-student hourly employee for the period of August through October 2025. The lab focuses on elucidating the regulatory mechanisms of HIV -1 protease precursor autoprocessing and novel antiviral discovery targeting this virus-specific step. The primary objective of this position is to characterize hit compounds identified through high-throughput screening ( HTS ) campaigns and to investigate HIV -1 resistance-associated mutations (RAMs) using a recently developed HIV -1 infectivity assay.
Position Minimum Qualifications
Applicants with a PhD degree and extensive experience in relevant experimental techniques are strongly preferred, as the position requires independent design and execution of research activities. Key responsibilities include:
+ Production and isolation of viral particles from transfected mammalian cells treated with or without antiviral compounds
+ High-throughput microscopic image acquisition, stitching, and quantification of target cells infected with replication-deficient viruses
+ SDS - PAGE and Western blot analysis of viral particles
+ Effective reporting and presentation of research findings
Preferred Qualifications
+ Ability to interact and communicate professionally and effectively with a diverse group of people including faculty, staff, postdocs, students, administration, and the public with tact, discretion, and appropriate judgment.
+ Ability to organize time and work effectively to keep lab operations running smoothly, recognizing that this is a difficult skill to learn and will likely involve troubleshooting and feedback.
+ Ability to keep accurate lab notebooks.
+ Good organizational skills.
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills.
+ Punctuality, dependability, and consistency.
+ Willingness to learn and grow, admit mistakes, and ask for help when you need it.
