Night Shift Four - 10 hour shifts rotating Weekends and Holidays includedUnder the direction and supervision of the Medical Director and/or Laboratory Manager, performs moderate and high complexity laboratory analysis and assumes responsibility for problem solving, teaching, systems control and limited supervision. Collects arterial, venous, and capillary blood specimens from patients. Performs drug screen collection, routine clerical duties, and performs simple point-of -care testing. Must maintain a cooperative working relationship with patients, patients' families, medical staff, interdepartmental and intradepartmental personnel.Position Requirements Minimum of Associate Degree in MedicalTechnology Phlebotomy skills for wide range of patient ages is preferred. Typing skills and experience with computer systems is preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Registration in a recognized national certification is highly recommended.Essential Functions (Responsibilities/Accountabilities) Collects, tests and stores blood and blood products; administers transfusion products, and maintains records of transfusions. Performs all other transfusion procedures up to releasing blood products to nursing staff. Following the Laboratory Procedures obtains blood specimens, collects other body fluids, and throat swabs for laboratory testing. Performs required procedures related to counting and identification of blood cells, coagulation studies, and quality control. Performs chemical tests on body fluids and exudates, tests urine and examines urine sediment for various types of cell bodies. Processes chemical tests on blood, serum, and plasma using the different analyzers. Perform routine serological tests on body fluids and materials such as blood, exudates, scrapings and spinal fluid to ascertain pathogenic qualities. Teach MLT students and other employees testing techniques. Participates actively in continuing education and presents in-service programs. Performs quality control tests according to the department procedure and testing schedule. Records the results in the Hospital Information System(H.I.S.). Contributes to the general laboratory functions and institutional needs. Attends regular department staff meetings and in-service training. Maintains compliance with laboratory and hospital policies and procedures, as well as laboratory safety procedures. This position may at anytime obtain specimens from neonates, infants, children, adolescents, and geriatrics. This person must have appropriate knowledge and skills to perform laboratory related duties for these populations. May also be assigned to assist in training phlebotomy to healthcare students
