What Youll Do:

The Chemical Operator operates, regulates, and monitors continuous flow or batch reactor units and auxiliary equipment to produce chemical products. Receives general work instructions orally or from log sheets. Monitors gages and recording instruments and adjusts valves and controls to regulate temperatures, pressures, concentration of solution, and flow of chemicals through the process systems for prescribed reactions within critical limits, according to log sheets and based on prior experience with equipment/process.

What Were Looking For:

  • Make and package batch chemicals for the lubricant and personal care industry by operating, regulating, and monitoring continuous flow or batch reactor units and auxiliary equipment.
  • Enter production data into the computer system (SAP)
  • Complete shift log and other check sheets requested by supervisor and/or management.
  • Read, understand, and follow batch sheets and SOPs.
  • Read various control panels and field instruments.
  • Use percentages and fractions to calculate material volume.
  • Perform math necessary to scale batches and convert to inches in a tank to pounds, to gallons of material.
  • Communicate information to/from team members during the shift and at the beginning and end of the shift.
  • Monitors gages and recording instruments and adjusts valves and controls to regulate temperatures, pressures, concentration of solution and flow of chemicals through the process systems for prescribed reactions within critical limits.
  • Load and unload material containers by using fork trucks (tank car/trucks, drums, totes).
  • Work safely and follow safety policies.
  • Write work orders for repairs or suggested improvements.
  • Support and assist supervision and/or management to troubleshoot equipment/process issues and solve technical problems.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory Hazardous Waste Management (RCRA) environmental requirements are met. Successfully complete RCRA training upon hire and annually thereafter.
  • Participate in on-the-job training programs as trainer and/or trainee.
  • Provide input in developing improvements to existing procedures and techniques for continuous improvement.
  • Load and unload bulk chemical trucks as needed.

Skills That Make a Difference:

  • High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited school.
  • Minimum of one (1) year previous chemical operator experience, bulk chemical material handler or chemical manufacturing experience
  • Ability to complete RCRA training upon hire.
  • Experience using math for calculations in a manufacturing environment (fractions, ratios, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)
  • Demonstrate literacy and proficiency of Lubrizols computer systems.
  • Previous tow motor experience is preferred
  • Previous chemical operator or bulk material handling experience is preferred
  • Working SAP knowledge is preferred
  • Previous knowledge of DOT/IMDG and DOT/ICAO hazardous material regulations (RCRA) is preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Will be subject to extended periods of climbing ladders and stairways, sitting, walking, standing, bending, stooping, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, moving, and lifting up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be willing/able to work in a warehouse environment and outdoors in inclement weather.
  • Capable of climbing stairs.
  • Must be able to wear all required PPE including occasional use of full-face respirator.
  • Safely work independently and around others by following all required procedures.
  • Must be able and willing to work rotating 12-hour shifts, overtime, and holidays as needed.
  • Maintain clean shaven appearance to allow for respirator usage
