As a Scientist with our Cell Therapy collaborations team, you will help our partners optimize automated manufacturing solutions to develop accessible therapies.
We seek an exceptional individual proficient in immunotherapy cell biology techniques, including immune cell isolation, engineering, expansion, and analysis. The ideal candidate is scientifically adept, has extensive biological experience, a strong work ethic, and a sense of urgency. You will manage daily operations at our Advanced Therapies Collaboration Center in Biolabs, Philadelphia, and work with resident companies and strategic partners to address their unique therapy needs collaboratively.
This will be an onsite position at our 601 Walnut St, Suite 825, Philadelphia, PA 19106 location.
A day in the life
Work with collaboration partners to develop new processes and procedures for cell therapy, including design of process scale-up/scale-out for isolation, activation, gene modification, expansion, harvest, formulation, and fill/finish using automation and closed systems.
Once collaboration projects are complete, support processes transfer to customers and maintain those relationships with collaborators
Integrate platforms and reagents into an automated solution, working closely with process and software engineers
Author and implement protocols, worksheets and/or SOPs to the levels that they are transferable internally to other Thermo Fisher Scientific sites and externally to customers.
Conduct the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the laboratory
Host site visitors, carry out on site demonstrations of product usage and train collaborators on the use of Thermo Fisher Scientifics solutions
Keys to success
Education
Ph.D. in biological engineering, immunology, pharmaceutical or life sciences, or equivalent, and 2-5 years of experience, or M.S. with at least 8+ years of relevant experience, preferably in an industrial setting. Or B.S with at least 10+ years of relevant experience.
Experience
Proven experience with bioprocess development for cell therapy. Industry experience preferred.
Experience in Design of Experiments and statistical analysis.
Experience with analytical techniques
Experience in T/NK/iPSC cell biology is required. Experience with cell therapy automation instruments/platforms is highly preferred.
Working experience in process development or manufacturing setting is highly desired.
Experience in cell therapy analytical assays and instruments development, including identity, purity, and potency, is preferred.
Experience in viral or non-viral genetic modification is preferred.
Strong Biological background and experience with immune cell isolation, engineering and culture.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced team environment, meet deadlines, prioritize work across multiple projects.
Must have excellent organizational, attention to detail, verbal and written communication skills.
Proven ability to identify strategic opportunities, set bold objectives, and drive key business priorities.

Off site, domestic travel up to 25% of the time to work at partner sites
Working Conditions: Works in a laboratory environment. Is required to lift up to 40 lbs. May be required to stand for long periods of time while performing duties. Must be able to work safely with chemicals and hazardous materials. Must be able to work overtime and flexible shifts.
