The Position

The Research Associate II/Senior Research Associate at GenMark will execute and analyze scientific experiments to develop and integrate enhancements to existing consumables and assays, and/or develop new molecular diagnostic assays for the Roche Cobas eplex platform. You will apply molecular biology and bioanalytical procedures, reagent preparation, chemical characterization, physical characterization, and laboratory duties. You will investigate, adapt, or modify experimental methods and technologies to advance projects in collaboration with cross-functional groups from across the company.

Also, in this role, you are:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day research, experimentation, data analysis, and presentations; working independently or in collaboration with others. Planning, designing, and executing experiments independently or under minimal supervision.
  • Conducting general molecular biology tasks, and/or biochemical assays including nucleic acid purification, quantification, amplification, protein/enzyme assays, or performing chemical or physical/engineering analysis and data analysis (graphing, statistical analysis).
  • Preparing biochemical reagents using appropriate procedural and documentation methods; possibly being responsible for handling samples in a BSL-2 lab.
  • Maintaining stockroom supplies, inventory, and lab cleaning duties.
  • Identifying, suggesting improvements, and solving problems in experiments or protocol designs.
  • Preparing documents meeting the company and regulatory standards.
  • Interacting with other internal departments, as necessary, to plan and expedite project objectives.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by management.
Who You Are

Research Associate II

  • You have a Bachelor's in Science in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field.
  • You have 2+ years of R&D laboratory experience outside of a class environment, working hands-on lab experience in biological sample handling, PCR, nucleic acid & reagent formulation.
  • You can perform precise routine pipetting, measurements, data collection, and scientific documentation such as data summaries, reports, and procedures.

Senior Research Associate

  • You have a Bachelor's in Science in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field.
  • You have 5+ years of R&D laboratory experience outside of a class environment, working hands-on lab experience in biological sample handling, PCR, nucleic acid & reagent formulation.
  • You can perform precise routine pipetting, measurements, data collection, and scientific documentation such as data summaries, reports, and procedures.
  • You have organizational skills to evaluate, prioritize, and handle multiple projects and priorities.

Behaviors, competencies, and qualities of the ideal applicant.

  • Knowledge of laboratory automation and system integration, experience working with Steril, BLS2 and/or amplicon free techniques and some JMP and statistical analysis skills.
  • Regulated product development environment experience- FDA, GMP, ISO, etc., and within a quality management system (QMS)
  • You have experience with root cause investigations and/or CAPAs

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The essential functions of the job are usually performed in an environmentally controlled facility where the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position may involve a combination of office and biotechnology laboratory environments. The employee may be exposed to hazardous chemicals, blood borne pathogens and automated equipment. While performing the job duties, the employee is regularly required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee may sometimes be required to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.

Relocation is not offered for this job posting. This is a fully onsite role in the Torreyana campus.

The expected salary range for this position, based on the primary location CA is $57,900.00 - $107,500.00 Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
