Job Title: Clinical Laboratory Scientist I or II
Work Location: San Juan Capistrano CA 92675
Pay: 45/Hr To 55/Hr + Tax Free Stipend available for travelers (Included)
Contract : 5 to 6 months
Shift : 1ST: 7 AM-3:30 PM PST or 8pm-4:30AM PST or 2PM- 10:30PM
Days : tue to sat or mon to Fri
Summary
Dedicated Clinical Laboratory Scientist with experience performing moderate to high complexity clinical laboratory tests in accordance with established procedures and policies. Committed to accuracy, quality assurance, and maintaining regulatory standards. Skilled in troubleshooting, equipment maintenance, and data analysis, with a focus on laboratory efficiency and patient safety.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform moderate to highly complex clinical laboratory tests independently, including newly introduced tests requiring specialized skills.
- Prepare and oversee preparation of reagents, stock solutions, standards, and controls. Test new reagents/controls and evaluate their effectiveness.
- Determine specimen acceptability and ensure accurate data calculations via manual or computerized methods.
- Accurately enter and verify test results; monitor reporting accuracy and maintain turnaround times.
- Evaluate and release results of routine and complex analyses. Address and document critical or unexpected results.
- Conduct preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of lab equipment.
- Perform and evaluate instrument checks, linearity, accuracy, and precision testing.
- Run Quality Control and calibrations; assess results for compliance before releasing data.
- Select/evaluate control materials, initiate corrective actions as necessary.
- Accurately participate in and document proficiency testing.
- Detect and resolve technical and operational issues, escalating to supervisors or field support as needed.
- Maintain accurate labeling and tracking of reagents and supplies.
- Keep a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and internal/external stakeholders.
- Actively participate in team meetings and Quality Improvement initiatives.
- Undertake special projects such as evaluating new procedures, cost analysis, reference range establishment, and SOP writing.
- Follow company policies and safety protocols, including infection control and waste disposal.
- Uphold confidentiality and professional integrity at all times.
- Supervise and train unlicensed staff, support training programs as needed.
- Maintain continuing education per California state licensure requirements.
- Answer phones, relay messages, and perform other administrative tasks as needed.
- Use personal protective equipment and comply with health/safety standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Work Experience
- 0-3 years of direct experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Offer rate determined by years of experience.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Frequently lift/carry 1-10 lbs; occasionally 11-25 lbs; rarely 26-50 lbs (with assistance if over 50 lbs).
- Perform repetitive tasks and fine motor manipulation; good hand-eye coordination required.
- Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Color vision testing required for applicable functions (eg, fluorescent microscopy).
Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong typing skills
- Familiar with laboratory automation systems (preferred)
Education and Certifications
- Bachelor&s Degree in Medical Technology or related Life/Physical Science (from an accredited institution) - Required
- Current State Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) License Required (California only; no substitutions accepted)
- Mass Spectrometry experience - Preferred
- Chemistry background - Preferred
