Freese and Nichols is seeking a mid-level Environmental Scientist III to join our Environmental Services team based in one of our Southeastern offices: Greenville SC, Charlotte NC, Duluth GA, or Atlanta GA. Youll support a diverse portfolio of environmental compliance, permitting, and restoration projects across the Southeastern U.S. , with opportunities for field leadership, project ownership, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

This role is ideal for professionals with 58 years of experience in environmental consulting who are ready to take the next step into project leadership, client engagement, and technical growth within a supportive and respected employee-owned firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead field investigations including stream and wetland delineations, habitat assessments, and site evaluations
  • Prepare environmental documents such as NEPA reports, impact assessments, permit applications, and technical deliverables
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies such as USACE, USFWS, and state environmental departments to support permitting and compliance
  • Manage small to mid-sized environmental projects or serve as a task lead on larger multidisciplinary teams
  • Mentor junior staff and review fieldwork, documentation, and environmental analysis
  • Collaborate with engineers, planners, and GIS analysts across teams and regions
  • Support proposals, scopes of work, budgets, and client presentations
  • Travel throughout the Southeastern U.S. as needed for site visits and project coordination
Qualifications
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Ecology, Biology, Environmental Planning, or a related field
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in environmental consulting or related regulatory work
  • Demonstrated experience in technical writing, fieldwork execution, and interdisciplinary collaboration

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS)
  • Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC)
  • GIS Certification or equivalent proficiency
  • Other relevant environmental or restoration-related certifications encouraged
