A bachelor's degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus three years of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing; OR

A master's degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus two years of the experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing; OR

A doctorate in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus one year of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing.

The incumbent of this position will serve in the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ), Office of Environmental Assessment (OEA), Underground Storage Tank Division (USTD). The incumbent of this position is responsible for managing and directing the activities of the Underground Storage Tank (UST) Prevention section of the USTD. Environmental Scientist (ES) staff in the section perform compliance inspections, incident response, oversee UST installation, repair, and closure activities.

The incumbent of this position is responsible for managing and directing the UST compliance activities of UST Prevention. This position oversees employees who perform UST inspections, UST closures and installs, and UST incidents. The incumbent will ensure that this section meets all performance indicators and grant commitments. The ES Supervisor is responsible for determining inspection assignments, workloads, conducting performance reviews and ensuring that work is properly planned and performed to achieve goals and grant commitments.

The incumbent will determine work assignments, review and approve paperwork, recommend hiring and promotions, prepare and sign CPM Plannings, train staff, and approve leave.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: Promotion - Internal Open only to current permanent employees of DEQ. This position may be filled as a Detail.

Compensation: This position offers a Special Entrance Rate (SER) listed below. This is the minimum compensation that may be offered. The job tittle and salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

  • Environmental Scientist Supervisor: $31.38 per hour
