JOB TITLE: Laboratory Manager

DEPARTMENT: Operations

REPORTS TO: Regional Technical Manager

SUMMARY: The Laboratory Manager will lead and oversee all laboratory operations supporting oilfield chemical testing, including samples related produced water, crude oil, gas bombs, solids and deposit materials from oil and gas production. This role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant testing in support of field operations, technical projects, and customer requirements.The laboratory manager will supervise the technical staff, maintain, repair and develop methods relating to high tech lab instruments such as: ICP, XRD, XRF, FTIR, IC, GC and DSC. Additionally, the laboratory manager will be a LIMS administrator, train lab technicians on the aspects of all testing in the lab, maintain quality assurance programs, ensure adherence to HSE standards, and provide technical expertise to internal and external stakeholders.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work in a safe and environmentally responsible manner
  • Ensure laboratory compliance with regulatory bodies such as OSHA, EPA, DOT

    collaborating with other groups within DK on company HSE policies; following all tenets of the Responsible Care Management System and the Quality, Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security Policy for Dorf Ketal

  • Maintain ISO/ASTM/API standards and ensure all testing is performed according to industry’s best practices and client specifications including QA/QC programs

  • Proficiency in oilfield-related analytical methods such as ASTM, API, NACE and knowledge of chemical treatment programs for drilling, upstream and midstream applications of samples that will be submitted to support such areas of Oil and Gas

  • Plan, organize, and direct daily laboratory activities to support oilfield operations, chemical development, and field troubleshooting

  • Develop and implement laboratory workflows, testing schedules, and priorities to meet operational deadlines from rush and critical rush sample requests

  • Oversee and at times perform testing related to oilfield fluids, including crude oil, produced water, natural gas as samples are provided and submitted to the lab

  • Interpret analytical results (e.g., ICP, GC, FTIR, IC, XRD, XRF, DSC, wet chemistry, titration, and other techniques) and provide data and reports in a timely manner

  • Ensure processes are documented and adhere to excellent laboratory practices such as: laboratory workspaces are properly maintained, clean and organized; calibrations are done on all lab equipment timely; maintain inventory and records of all necessary supplies and reagents for the laboratory processes and procedures

  • Package and ship samples when necessary to other DK locations or customers; ensure other lab personnel are trained on such packing and shipping requirements

  • Prepare, report and present laboratory reports, technical summaries, and data packages to support DK business, customers, management, and cross-functional teams

  • Support customer site visits, audits, and technical presentations including facilitating lab tours displaying our advanced laboratory capabilities

  • Recommend and implement new and revised testing procedures and SOPs to provide accurate and informative test results

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate laboratory staff, fostering a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement
  • Develop training programs for lab technicians on new methods, safety procedures, and equipment use

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education/Experience/Skills:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or related science preferred; Associate degree in chemistry or related science is required
  • Experience/Skills:
    • Minimum 5–8 years of laboratory experience in the oil & gas industry, with at

      least 2 years in a supervisory or management role

    • Experience with LIMS and laboratory data management systems

    • Strong leadership and team-building skills.

    • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication abilities.

    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

  • Certifications:
    • DOT and IATA Hazmat Shipping Certification
  • Physical requirements:
    • Ability to work in a laboratory and occasionally outside lab area in ambient conditions
    • Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
    • Must follow all PPE and HSE requirements and able to wear such PPE
