The Opportunity

This position is fully on-site, based in La Place Ct, Carlsbad, CA.

As a Research Associate in the Research and Development, Consumable & Assay Technology team, you will execute and analyze scientific experiments toward the development and integration of enhancements to the existing consumables and assays, and/or the development of new molecular diagnostic assays on the Roche Cobas ePlex platform. This is a unique opportunity to leverage your background and skills in chemistry (polymer chemistry, electrochemistry, analytical chemistry, organic chemistry) & bioanalytical (biochemistry, molecular biology) to enhance and build your career by working cross-functionally. Also, in this role, you are:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day running of experiments in the chemistry laboratory and assay development laboratory. You c onduct general chemistry formulation, preparation of reference standards, chemistry analytical tasks, biochemical assays, and data analysis (data organization, graphing, statistical analysis)
  • Preparing or synthesizing simple organic molecules, conjugation reactions, polymer reagents, biochemical reagents, buffers, and solutions as needed, using appropriate procedural and documentation methods, including industry-standard good laboratory practices, with guidance.
  • Operating general analytical instruments during raw materials and intermediate reagent testing.
  • Analyzing human samples in a BSL-2 lab via nucleic acid assays.
  • Responsible for maintaining chemistry, biochemistry, and stockroom supplies and inventory.
  • Performing duties under supervision with increasing independence.
  • Preparing documents meeting company standards, including data summaries, reports, SOPs, and procedures. Presenting work at meetings as required and proposing new strategies and methods to address immediate and upcoming technical issues.
  • Interacting with other internal departments, as necessary, to plan and expedite project objectives. Identifying and solving problems in experiments or protocol designs, and suggesting improvements.

Who You Are
  • You hold a BS degree and bring 2+ years of reagent chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry laboratory experience, post-BS degree, ideally in industry (life sciences tools, biotechnology, biopharma, or diagnostics preferred) and developing and/or troubleshooting distributable products.

The expected salary range for this position based on Carlsbad, CA is $57,900 - $82,700. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
