As a Chemist, you will join the Silica business unit in QEMETICA as a member of the Research & Development team to support the Physical Testing labs by measuring key physical and performance properties for both precipitated silica samples and rubber test parts containing these silica products. The Chemist will also support operations in the Silica Pilot Plant to scale up processes and prepare pilot-scale batches of precipitated silica products. The Chemist will ensure safe and efficient work while achieving key deliverables and driving continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
• Promote and ensure safe work in the Physical Testing Labs and Silica Pilot Plant, including the operation of equipment, handling of chemicals, etc.
• Learn and conduct a variety of analytical tests and procedures to characterize precipitated silica products and rubber materials containing silica products, including porosimetry, density, tear strength, abrasion resistance, mechanical properties, rheological properties, etc.
• Operate silica precipitation and spray drying equipment, handle chemicals, assist with equipment maintenance, and complete related tasks as required to meet Silica Pilot Plant deliverables.
• Communicate technical conclusions through written and verbal summaries, reports, presentations, and updates.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a relevant technical field, such as Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or an Engineering discipline with a strong background in chemistry.
• Unwavering commitment to safe work practices, including following all laboratory procedures and contributing to the maintenance of high safety standards.
• Ability to execute technical procedures and test methods accurately and consistently.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
