The Site Mitigation and Restoration Program in Sacramento is seeking an Environmental Scientist for the Lead-Acid Battery Recycling Facility Investigation and Cleanup program (LABRIC) within the Exide Division. This individual will work with geologists, engineers, and scientists, and an administrative staff in the LABRIC program, including site discovery and screening, dealer inspection, site investigation and cleanup, project management, and interaction with various stakeholders. As an Environmental Scientist you will have the opportunity to:

  • Review and/or prepare technical reports and other documents including, but not limited to: Phase I, Preliminary Endangerment Assessment/Resource Conservation and Recovery Act Facility Assessment, Site Screening Reports or Memoranda, Site Characterization workplan and reports, Sampling and Analysis Plans, Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessment, pilot and treatability studies, feasibility studies, remedy selection documents, design, implementation, completion reports, operation and maintenance plans, five-year reviews and long-term monitoring reports for compliance with approved plans
  • Evaluate scientific data, site conditions, and the potential overall impact on public health and the environment and make risk management decisions that support selection of remedies and allow integration of the remedy with site development
  • Review or prepare cost estimates and coordinates with the other DTSC staff to ensure adequate financial assurance mechanisms are in-place for the selected remedy and long-term operation and maintenance
  • Design and participate in discovery projects especially in environmental justice areas to identify sites that pose a risk to human health and the environment

Desirable Qualifications We Look For:

  • Experience in environmental investigation and remediation
  • Experience in project planning and scheduling
  • Experience with project budgeting
  • Experience with developing and managing contracts
  • Knowledge of remediation technologies
  • Engineer/Geologist-in-Training or Professional Engineer/Geologist Registration preferred
