JOIN OUR TEAM AS AN ASSISTANT LABORATORY MANAGER!
Responsible work in the direction of the operations of the Utilities Environmental Laboratory. Work involves assisting the Manager with the administration and coordination of the activities of the environmental laboratory. This role is a supervisory position.
Essential Job Functions
- Assists Laboratory Manager in the development and implementation of laboratory protocols, laboratory policies, and laboratory programs.
- Directly supervises employees.
- Coordinates all sampling activities with laboratory personnel, Pasco County Utilities Operations, outside agencies, contract laboratories and clients.
- Oversees field operations.
- Substitutes for Laboratory Manager in their absence.
- Reviews QA/QC data including the QC Officer's quarterly and annual reports for submittal to Laboratory Manager for approval.
- Reviews SOPs for final approval by Laboratory Manager in the Qualtrax/Ideagen Document Control System.
- Is the primary administrator of LIMS.
- Prepares the annual budget and gathers data regarding lab revenues, lab expenditures for operations, cost analysis, etc. for submittal to Laboratory Manager for review and approval.
- Assists in the review of results for reporting to clients and outside agencies including FDEP and EPA.
- Prepares bid specifications for supplies, analytical equipment, and contracted laboratory services for review and approval by Laboratory Manager.
- Collaborates with other departments as required.
- Assists staff with troubleshooting of equipment, analysis requirements, and QC requirements.
- Prepares employee annual reviews for direct reports.
- Conducts annual Customer Service training.
- Attends all managerial meetings and events.
- Responsible for implementing and tracking a training program for Lab staff.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the principles, standard methods, and practice of the operation and maintenance of analytical and microbiological laboratory.
- Strong computer skills.
- A strong understanding of statistics and mathematics.
- Ability to perform chemical and microbiological tests, without supervision, obtaining reliable results.
- Ability to evaluate and interpret analytical data.
- Ability to read for comprehension.
- Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and visual communication.
- Ability to supervise laboratory personnel.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent communicator both verbal and written.
- Statistical skills for reviewing data.
- Ability to understand and perform duties as assigned by the Laboratory Manager.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Minimum Requirements
PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's Degree chemistry, biology, microbiology or a related field. Two (2) years of analytical bench chemistry experience. One (1) year of bench experience in sanitary microbiology. Experience in the technical and scientific operations of a laboratory. Must have supervisory experience.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.
