The hospital is comprised of 545 beds and is a Level I Trauma Center, an Emergency Heart Care Station and a 911 Receiving Hospital. 3:00pm-11:00pm, with alternating weekends
Duties & Responsibilities
Purpose of Position:
Under direct supervision, performs clinical laboratory procedures that encompass the scope of practice of a clinical laboratory technician, in accordance with Article 165 of the New York State Education Law. All personnel perform
Under direct supervision of a clinical laboratory technologist, supervisor or director, as appropriate, with moderate exercise of independent judgment, performs clinical laboratory procedures and examinations. related work as required.
Examples of Typical Tasks:
At a higher level, performs the typical tasks of Assignment Level I:
1. Obtains, collects, and accessions specimens and labels with name, date, and source. Stores and preserves specimens and disposes of completed specimens.
2. Prepares specimens and performs or assists in the performance of routine tests and analyses, employing standard controls in accordance with stipulated procedures utilizing manual or automated techniques.
3. Prepares reagents and media according to prescribed formula. Maintains upkeep of designated laboratory instruments before and after usage.
4. Records results and submits reports of diagnostic tests, utilizing safeguards such as delta checks and quality control.
In addition to performing the typical tasks of Assignment Level I at a higher level, also performs the following:
1. May assign work to those in Assignment Level I, and train them in laboratory procedures at the technician level, reviewing their work as required.
2. Sets up standard controls and calibrations for equipment and tests as required; prepares packages, labels, and standardizes laboratory reagents and media.
3. Supervises the maintenance or maintains upkeep of designated laboratory instruments before and after usage, including minor repairs and adjustments; maintains inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment, oversees storage and security of same.
4. Performs tests employing standard controls in accordance with stipulated procedures, utilizing manual or automated techniques; analyses and records results and submits reports.
Minimum Qualifications
1. VaIid certification as a clinical laboratory technician issued by the NYSED.
Special Note:
1. Successful completion of an appropriate training program for phlebotomy (satisfactory to the laboratory director) must be completed prior to an individual performing such work.
