JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • The Associate Scientist, Bioinformatics performs a wide range of highly technical and complex bioinformatics procedures and has documented achievements and increasing technical, management, leadership, and professional expertise.
  • Duties include designing and developing software, databases, and interfaces for analyzing and manipulating research data and analyzing and interpreting results of experiments.
  • Performing basic programing using Perl/Python or Java, statistical programming, web-development, and database query through SQL.
  • Collaboration with researchers to develop high throughput data processing and analysis capability and recommend potential alternative approaches to improve the quality of results.
  • Directs and guides database searches and the computational analysis of resulting data.
  • Provides direct technical customer support through helping to guide, implement and maintain further improvements to bioinformatics software, databases and interfaces.
  • Works with the entire bioinformatics team to diagnose and fix related issues.
  • Responsible for leading projects and the management and oversight of other team members.
  • With approval from the direct supervisor and faculty director, may assist in preparing grant and other funding applications, may be responsible for own research projects, may have full responsibilities for specific areas, methodology development, user support or may serve as principal investigator on funded proposals.
  • Performs other responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, biological or physical science, or a related discipline and five years of experience in bioinformatics applications.
  • Eligible experience is experience obtained after achieving the PhD.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Extensive experience developing and implementing microsimulation models specifically tailored to diabetes and chronic disease management.
  • Proven track record of peer-reviewed publications that demonstrate expertise in microsimulation modeling and related analytical methodologies.
  • Strong proficiency in analyzing complex, large-scale EHR datasets, with particular expertise in PCORnet and EPIC COSMOS datasets.
  • Advanced skills in machine Learning, data analysis, and model implementation using R and/or Python.
  • PhD in a health-related discipline required. Candidates with backgrounds in pharmacy, pharmacoepidemiology, or related fields are highly preferred.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines ofdepartment. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
