Serves as the Lab Tests Utilization gatekeeper for prior authorizations by coordinating test reviews with the pathologists, assist with placing collectable orders, identify and resolve process gaps, monitor outcomes. Guides clinicians to current test information including algorithms, facilitates consultations with pathologists and doctoral-level staff to ensure lab testing supports optimal clinical care. Coordinate review and renewal of Reference lab contracts. Collaborate with VCU Legal and Compliance officers to ensure contracts align with Anti-Kickback Statute and the False Claims Act. Reviews and analyzes contract requirements to ensure completeness; ensure any compliance requirements are met. Establishes and monitors quality metrics for all reference lab vendors to meet regulatory requirements. Compiles metrics for Laboratory Utilization Committee.
Essential Job Statements
Serves as the gatekeeper for the reference testing utilization program. Serves as the technical expert in reference testing and test utilization management. Selects appropriate laboratories for reference testing
Creates and manages the pathology reference laboratory contract process; establishes and monitors quality metrics for all reference lab vendors to meet regulatory requirements.
Works collaboratively with lab administrators and purchasing team to identify expiring contracts with sufficient time to negotiate adjustments, continuation, or termination of agreements as applicable. Serve as primary point of contact for lab in contract discussions.
Collect and review data to evaluate high-volume and high-cost reference testing, and trends that may impact the quality and cost of patient care.
Identify testing trends and propose interventions that can help guide test selection to ensure compliance with evidence-based guidelines.
Ensure Lab Utilization efforts are meeting billing and compliance requirements.
Coordinate collection of data to produce metrics required in Lab Utilization Committee Charter.
Collaborates with laboratories leadership with regards to input on proposed vendor contracts, contract renewals and revisions
Miscellaneous Responsibilities performs other duties as assigned and/or participates in special projects in order to support the mission of VCUHS and department. Provides assistance to team members. Fosters department and laboratory teamwork through effective communication. Accepts alternate assignments as required, graciously.

Employment Qualifications
Required Education:
Bachelors Degree in Medical Laboratory Science/Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology from an accredited program
Preferred Education:
Masters Degree in Medical Laboratory Science/Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology from an accredited program
Licensure/Certification Required:
Certified as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or CLS by the National Credentialing Agency
Licensure/Certification Preferred:

Minimum Qualifications
Years and Type of Required Experience
Minimum of 4 years of clinical work experience as a Medical Technologist with at least 3 years in a leadership role (senior/lead level with increased responsibility)
