Scientist - Cell Surface Discovery
What you will doLets do this. Lets change the world. Amgen is seeking a passionate and innovative Scientist to join the Functional Genomics teams in South San Francisco. This role is at the frontier of discovery biology, combining Discovery Genomic and Proteomic technologies to uncover novel therapeutic targets across Amgens key therapeutic areas including Oncology, Inflammation, General Medicine, and Cardiovascular or Metabolic diseases
The successful candidate will bring expertise in high-dimensional transcriptomic profiling and surface protein analysis as well as disease functional or screening modeling to support target identification, validation, and mechanism-of-action studies. You will play a key role in driving innovation, developing technologies, and integrating multi-omics approaches to advance Amgens discovery pipeline.
Key Responsibilities:- Design, implement, and execute complex experimental workflows to profile cell surface proteins and full-length or translated transcriptomes.
- Lead and support single-cell genomics analysis and surfaceome-based target discovery projects using in vitro and ex vivo models (cell lines, organoids, tissues).
- Assist to develop and apply proximity labeling, cell surface enrichment, and related profiling efforts for functional genomics studies.
- Prepare high-quality samples for mass spectrometry (e.g., TMT, DIA) and next-generation sequencing.
- Use cutting-edge software tools (e.g., Cell Ranger, Seurat, Proteome Discoverer, Spectronaut, DIA-NN) and collaborate with bioinformatics to analyze and interpret high-dimensional datasets.
- Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to drive integrated multi-omics discovery efforts.
- Present findings internally and externally through team meetings, conferences, and peer-reviewed publications.
- Maintain detailed electronic lab notebooks and experimental records.

Basic Qualifications:
- Doctorate degree or
- Masters degree and 2 years of relevant scientific experience or
- Bachelors degree and 4 years of relevant scientific experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in single-cell RNA-seq technologies (10x Genomics platform, library prep, data QC/analysis).
- Expertise in data generation and analysis of short- and long-read sequencing platforms and proven experience with Ribo-seq or polysome-seq would be plus.
- Expertise in CRISPR-based editing technologies and overexpression systems (e.g., lentiviral delivery).
- Experience in developing and handling diverse biological sample types (e.g. primary cells, organoids, or IPS-derived models as well as FFPE or frozen tissues).
- Experience in high-throughput automation platforms (e.g., Agilent Bravo) would be plus
- Familiar well with antibody or protein engineering and proximity labeling platforms
- Track record of scientific innovation, publications, and/or conference presentations.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in fast-paced, multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
