- Perform and report test results for all clinical laboratory procedures as assigned, both automated and manual, without immediate review by the director, consultant, or supervisory team.
- Demonstrate proficiency and understanding of fundamental principles of clinical laboratory procedures with minimal supervision.
- Monitor and ensure accountability for test data, quality control, quality assurance, preventive maintenance, proficiency testing, and all operations related to laboratory testing procedures.
- Notify the supervisory team of any irregularities that may influence test results.
- Troubleshoot equipment and test methods and resolve unusual laboratory situations.
- Consult with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals on the technical aspects of methodologies used, test utilization, and interpretation of patient results.
- Instruct new employees and Clinical Laboratory Scientist students in laboratory procedures to develop their proficiency and understanding.
- Provide training, guidance, and technical information to Laboratory Assistants, support staff, clerks, CLS students, and Medical Center personnel.
- Discuss clinical laboratory problems with the supervisory team and lead technologist to enhance departmental communication.
- Participate in work groups to address departmental problems, issues, or goals.
- Assist in evaluating new test procedures and communicate potential implementations to the supervisory team.
- Meet state requirements for mandatory continuing education units (CEUs).
- Work in a professional, cooperative, and courteous manner according to established standards.
- Observe all laboratory and regulatory agency policies and procedures.
- Maintain overall safety of the department in accordance with established safety, infection control, and procedure protocols.
- Monitor supplies and reagents and notify appropriate parties of par levels.
- Perform any clerical or other duties of support staff/laboratory assistants as necessary, including phlebotomy on inpatients and outpatients.
- Certified as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) in California.
- At least 1 year of directly related work experience.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Possession of any additional required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
The work environment involves working in a clinical laboratory setting where adherence to safety, infection control, and procedural protocols is mandatory. You will work collaboratively with a team of healthcare professionals, providing training and technical guidance as needed. This position may require performing phlebotomy on patients, and occasional clerical duties. The role includes a 4-month contract with the possibility of extension upon completion of 1040 hours.
