The Flavor Chemist position is responsible for successfully executing flavor creation projects including new product development, duplication, quality improvement, and/or cost optimization of flavors used in food and beverages. This role requires significant contributions to business objectives through outstanding technical acumen and leadership behaviors including trust, collaboration and communication. This role requires resilience and flexibility to execute winning flavor solutions around a variety of customer and innovation needs. It also requires the development of effective relationships with key internal (Sales, Marketing, Business Development, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Procurement) and external partners and customers.
- Responsible for the creation of innovative flavors for a variety of food and beverage products to meet the specific requirements of our customers.
- Properly design flavors (sweet or savory) of various types including, but not limited to : liquid compounded flavors, spray dried flavors, emulsions, extracts, reactions, topnotes, and plated flavors.
- Match samples of flavors from competitors, food products and nature with the support of our analytical and sensory teams
- Ability to formulate a wide spectrum of flavors that adhere to specific regulatory requirements and/or restrictions.
- Project leader for creative customer-based projects and as project support for application projects
- Contribute to and potentially lead innovation, educational, or other forward-looking continuous improvement projects.
- Expand proficiency of flavor development by allowing for exposure to key elements.
- Interface with multiple cross-functional groups to execute projects.
- Provide technical support to account managers on specific projects, interact with key customers.
- Provide leadership and instruction to technicians and lower-level professional personnel as required.
- Contribute to the training and mentoring of flavor creation trainees as indicated in the Synergy US Flavor Creation Trainee Program materials.
- Demonstrates effective cross-functional communication with key stakeholders such as Sales, Business Development and Marketing
- Develop acumen and occasional independence with allied functions of Quality, Regulatory, Procurement and Manufacturing
- Grow an external presence with industry associations and trade organizations.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
- Certified by the Society of Flavor Chemists
- Minimum of 7 years progressive experience in the development of flavors for foods and beverages
- Effective and evolving ability to teach, train, and mentor.
- In-depth knowledge of aroma chemicals, essential oils and other materials used in the creation of flavors.
- Comprehensive and growing knowledge of flavor regulations, flavor manufacturing procedures and US flavor regulations
- Extraordinary sense of taste and smell with the ability to recognize chemicals by odor.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proficient organizational and Microsoft Office skills.
- Available for periodic travel up to 5% of the time.

Salary Range: 146,541.00 - 219,811.00
The actual compensation that you will be offered will depend on a variety of factors including geography, skills and abilities, education, experience and other relevant factors. This role will remain open until filled.
