Job Description

The principal focus of this position is to test raw materials, intermediates, and finished products to determine if they meet specifications. As a chemist, the scope will include method development, instrument optimization, troubleshooting, and statistical monitoring of method performance. You will use analytical results to guide the production and packaging of hydrochloric acid. Documentation of work is required to meet customer and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Determine if tankage is acceptable for packaging based on HCl analytical results for specific customer orders daily.
  • Enter production movements of hydrochloric acid in SAP.
  • Work safely and responsibly at all times, including using designated personal protective equipment, safeguarding health and safety.
  • Conduct laboratory testing of raw materials to confirm suitability for production.
  • Perform laboratory testing of intermediate product samples to confirm suitability for further processing.
  • Test finished products against quality control specifications to ensure products released for shipment conform to agreed Sales Specifications and are of consistent, high quality.
  • Accurately report laboratory test results to generate completed Certificates of Analysis.
  • Prepare Certificates of Analysis accurately.
  • Record and maintain accurate and complete records of test results, calculations, and data in accordance with ISO 9001 procedures and Quality Assurance System.
  • Manage storage of manufactured product and raw material retain samples in accordance with ISO 9001 procedures and Laboratory Quality Assurance guidelines.
  • Identify specification anomalies in manufactured products and raw materials for corrective actions.
  • Maintain high levels of laboratory cleanliness and tidiness, in line with good housekeeping guidelines.
  • Actively contribute to the day-to-day function of the laboratory service, preparing shared consumables and ensuring instruments and equipment are clean and ready for use.
  • Maintain stocks of laboratory reagents and consumables to ensure no delays in quality control testing and dispatch of products.
  • Develop methods of analysis per lab manager requirements, including gauge R&R, instrument optimization, validation, and statistical long-term stability monitoring of methods.
  • Primarily work during second shift operations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in chemistry
  • Problem-solving, analytical ability, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Prior experience using ICP for trace metals analysis preferred
  • Experience in wet chemistry, pH measurements, FTIR, X-Ray spectrometer, and Auto titrations preferred
  • Commitment to documenting testing via established forms, paperwork, and computer data entry
  • Willingness to follow established procedures and work within cGMP, FDA, and ISO 9001 environments
  • Ability to plan daily/weekly workload and function independently of supervision
  • Must pass Department of Homeland Security check, pre-placement physical, and pre-employment drug-screen
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional laboratory environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. Some of the work will require exposure to loud noises or fumes in the plant facility. The physical demands include occasionally sitting, climbing or balancing, and stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $62000.00 - $68000.00/yr.
