In this position, you will work as a leader in a patient focused, fast paced, and inspiring environment.

The Toxicology Department is looking for a Certifying Scientist Team Lead to work in our laboratory. The Team Lead is required to make independent decisions regarding the functions of the lab and work closely with the Supervisors to ensure compliance and efficiency in all areas. The Team Lead will need strong leadership and communication skills and be able to motivate, encourage, and mentor other employees within the department.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Up to 75% of this position will be spent performing the duties a certifying scientist (i.e., reviewing, certifying, and releasing results).
  • Provide leadership, guidance and coaching on effective certifying methods.
  • Assist in monitoring workflow and sample pending reports; prioritize daily certifier tasks accordingly.
  • Assist with review and release of STAT, high priority, and complex samples.
  • Partner with other clinical laboratory departments to determine solutions that will improve sample workflow and meet client needs.
  • Assist coordination of departmental training schedules and training of new staff. Assist in competency assessments.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase departmental efficiency, quality, and consistency.
  • Write and update standard operating procedures. Assist with implementation.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned by supervisor or manager.
  • Act as the designated point person in the absence of Supervisor, Manager, or Director.
  • Assist with method development and new assay validations.
  • Perform / delegate Quality Assurance checks and QC Management.
  • May assist with providing monthly reports and evaluating QC trends that come out of Ascent.
  • May assist with 6 Month Instrument Comparisons.
  • Advise/consult with laboratory technical staff regarding routine testing issues and practices
  • Assist in preparation for inspections and audits. Interact with inspectors and auditors when appropriate
  • Assist with lab communications (ie. bench updates, meetings).
  • Assist in preparation and completion of corrected and/or amended reports.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Biology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field or equivalent education and experience.
  • Four years training and experience in high-complexity testing in Clinical Toxicology that includes a minimum of two years certifying or leadership experience.
  • Two years of chromatography and/or mass spectrometry experience strongly preferred.
  • Must have the training and experience in the theory and practice of methods and procedures used in the laboratory for which the individual is certifying data.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multiple departments, personalities, and levels within an organization.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including written, verbal, and listening skills.
  • Excellent research and problem resolution skills.
  • Must be able to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Work effectively in fast paced high volume environment.
