Carpenter Co. has an opening for a Senior Lab Technician in the Advanced Method Development Group, at our Reinhart Technical Center (RTC) location in Richmond, Virginia. The Senior Lab Technician is responsible for analyzing chemical substances to ensure quality, compliance, and innovation in products or materials. They will utilize advanced scientific techniques & knowledge to test, identify, and quantify chemical components, contributing to product development, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance. They will summarize and analyze data in support of more experienced personnel. This role is highly analytical. Duties and Responsibilities Perform chemical analysis using advanced analytical techniques such as gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), atomic absorption (AA), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), etc. Calibrate, maintain, and operate analytical instruments and equipment. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to analytical equipment. Ensure instruments are in proper working conditions and meet calibration standards. Analyze, recognize, and interpret experimental data in support of the larger Carpenter Technical and Sales teams. Disseminate research findings and technical knowledge to R D stakeholders and relevant Business Units through reports and Monthly RTC Technical Meetings. Contribute to documentation of new analytical test methods in the form of Carpenter Work Instructions to be transferred to the Analytical Testing Group for implementation. Prioritize projects and method development efforts according to their urgency and current impact to the business. Education and Experience High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Associate's degree in a scientific field is preferred. 5-8 years of experience in an analytical chemistry role is required. Experience with GC-MS, atomic absorption, GPC, and HPLC preferred. Familiarity with laboratory information management system (LIMS) and data analysis software. Experience executing experimental or testing programs within supervisory guidelines. Experience with precise and accurate sample preparation, and knowledgeable in appropriate standards and calibration generation. Willingness to train on new analytical equipment/techniques. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent attention to details and organization skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting. Ability to interact well with all levels of the organization and maintain strong relationships with team members, peers and internal customers. Strong communication and presentation skills, both oral and written. Functional knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
