Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Lab Technician/Chemist to join our laboratory team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting various chemical analyses and tests to ensure the quality and compliance of our products. This role is essential in maintaining our high standards of product integrity and supporting our commitment to safety and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and specialized chemical analyses on petroleum products, including crude oil, refined products, and additives.
  • Ensure all products meet industry standards and regulatory requirements through rigorous testing and analysis.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.
  • Accurately record and interpret test results, maintaining detailed and organized records of all analyses.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Assist in research and development projects aimed at improving product quality and performance.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on test results and findings to the Laboratory Manager and other stakeholders.
  • Work closely with other departments, including production and quality assurance, to address any issues related to product quality.
  • Conduct gas chromatography (GC) tests to analyze the composition of petroleum products.
  • Utilize spectroscopy techniques, including infrared (IR) and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy, to identify and quantify chemical compounds.
  • Perform titration methods to determine the concentration of specific components in petroleum samples.
  • Conduct distillation tests to assess the boiling range and purity of petroleum products.
  • Measure the viscosity of petroleum products using viscometers to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Perform flash point tests to determine the temperature at which petroleum products can form ignitable vapors.
  • Measure the density and specific gravity of petroleum products to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Conduct tests to determine the sulfur content in petroleum products, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in a laboratory setting, preferably within the petroleum industry.
  • Proficiency in using laboratory instruments and equipment, including gas chromatographs, spectrometers, and titrators.
  • Strong understanding of chemical analysis techniques and petroleum product specifications.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in conducting tests and recording data.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and GMP.
  • Skills in GC-MS, HPLC, and pipette handling.
  • Understanding of QC check procedures.
Work Environment

The position operates in a fast-paced lab environment with a 2-2-3 schedule. The first two weeks will be on day shift and the next two on night shift, from 5:30 AM to 5:30 PM or 5:30 PM to 5:30 AM. The position also requires candidates to be "on call" for any coverage needs due to absences, which is noted as "very rare."

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $29.00/hr.
