Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and innovative Analytical Chemist with expertise in method development and validation using GC, GC-MS, and HPLC technologies, specifically focused on essential oils and complex natural products. This role is pivotal in enhancing analytical capabilities through the creation, adaptation, and continuous improvement of testing methodologies. The ideal candidate will provide critical support across research, development, and quality functions in a dynamic laboratory environment.

responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute advanced qualitative and quantitative analyses for essential oils using Gas Chromatography (GC), GC-MS, and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
  • Investigate and interpret unknown peaks within chromatographic profiles to improve product understanding and integrity.
  • Lead the development and validation of analytical methods to detect and quantify residual agricultural substances and other targeted compounds.
  • Perform ongoing maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting for GC, HPLC, and GC-MS instruments to ensure high performance and data reliability.
  • Contribute to quality control (QC) efforts by conducting analytical evaluations across raw materials, intermediates, and finished goods-including flavors, aromatic compounds, and specialty blends.
  • Execute and interpret QC assessments such as organoleptic evaluations, specific gravity, refractive index, optical rotation, aldehyde tests, spectral analysis, and flash point determinations.
  • Ensure adherence to laboratory SOPs through accurate instrument logkeeping, proper data entry, and preparation of Certificates of Analysis (COAs).
  • Maintain QC records in accordance with regulatory, safety, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Support sample preparation based on formulation guidelines from the R&D team and assist with hands-on laboratory processes such as distillation.
  • Uphold compliance with food safety and quality standards, including SQF and other related protocols.
  • Participate in sensory evaluation processes; must be free from sensory restrictions and adhere to lab sensory guidelines.
  • Actively contribute to process improvements and foster innovation in analytical workflows.
  • Take initiative in project execution, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and supporting additional tasks as needed.

qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Analytical Chemistry or a closely related scientific discipline.
  • 3-5 years of practical experience in the flavors, fragrances, or essential oils industry, with direct responsibilities in analytical chemistry.
  • Deep understanding of essential oil composition and the formulation of flavors and aromatic products.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using and maintaining analytical equipment such as GC, GC-MS, and HPLC.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot technical issues and optimize equipment performance.
  • Strong communication skills for documenting work, collaborating with colleagues, and presenting findings.
  • Proactive, resourceful, and committed to continuous learning and improvement.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel) and laboratory data systems.
  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-driven environment.
