With an overarching mission to eliminate ageism and ensure the dignity and quality of life of approximately 1.8 million older New Yorkers, the NYC Department for the Aging is deeply committed to helping older adults age in their homes and creating a community-care approach that reflects a model age-inclusive city. Bureau of Planning and Strategic Initiatives (PSI) is the data analysis and research arm of the agency. The Research & Program Evaluation unit is composed of experts in research and evaluation design and analytics. Team members conduct program evaluations, needs assessments, and secondary data analysis, as well as work with other consulting, academic, and institutional research groups. The Bureau of Planning and Strategic Initiatives within the Research & Program Evaluation unit, seeks a motivated, organized and detail-oriented individual with excellent analytic and quantitative skills to serve as a Senior Research Associate. As a member of this unit, they will actively work with program staff, senior staff, and external partners to effectively collect and analyze data to review impact and outcomes of NYC Aging services. This position requires someone who is comfortable working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The Senior Research Associate's responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Participate and assist in developing research and evaluation studies undertaken by the Agency as well as identifying methods for data collection and analysis, either directly or through the supervision of others. - Design and study methodology and sampling plans, and conducts analysis to identify impact and outcome indicators, for research and evaluation studies undertaken by the Department. - Analyze data, including demographic data from various data systems using Excel, SQL, SPSS, R, or other softwares, which requires the use of high level statistical techniques along with the ability to interpret results. - Participate in work groups within NYC Aging and other city agencies to improve or expand data collection and/or analysis. Assists in coordinating the research efforts of the agency with research projects in other agencies or institutions. - Assist in the writing up of reports, tailoring the narrative to various audiences, such as the general public, oversight agencies, and academic journals. - Project management of various initiatives taken on by the division. - Supervision of interns housed in the division. CITY RESEARCH SCIENTIST - 21744 Minimum Qualifications 1. For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health. To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have: 1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or 2. A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or 3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in "2" above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in "1" and "2" above. NOTE: Probationary Period Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year. Preferred Skills - Candidates must have advanced knowledge of statistical analysis through R, SPSS, Power BI, Python and/or Excel. - Experience with SQL, Tableau and/or Salesforce is preferred. - Candidates must have advanced knowledge in research design and methods. - Excellent writing and communication skills is preferred. - Understanding and experience with program development is a plus.- Knowledge and/or experience in social services, community relations, public administration, or management a plus.
