Description
We are seeking a Scientist II to support research in the laboratories of Drs. J. Victor Garcia and Angela Wahl in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. We work with a multidisciplinary team of investigators from academia, government, and industry to develop and use precision animal models to study fundamental aspects of the immune system during health and disease and interactions between human-specific pathogens and their host. Our work is funded by multiple NIH grant awards, private foundation investments, and federal government contracts. Areas of research in our laboratories include: 1) HIV Persistence and Cure, 2) HIV Transmission and Prevention, 3) The Microbiome in Health and Disease, and 4) In vivo analysis of the interaction between clinically relevant human pathogens and their host including COVID-19, TB, etc. This position will provide essential support of the day-to-day research activities performed in the laboratory including the design, execution and troubleshooting of experiments and the analysis, interpretation and presentation of research results. This position will also participate in employee training in laboratory techniques, ensure compliance with institutional safety regulations, perform equipment maintenance, and respond to laboratory emergencies.

Qualifications
Qualifications
Doctor of Philosophy, D.V.M. or M.D. degree in a related field and four (4) years of related experience OR M.D. and Master's degree and two (2) years of related experience OR Master's degree and six (6) years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree and eight (8) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

PhD in life science field + 10 years of research experience preferred
