The R&D Senior Chemist will work extensively in the Building Products, Energy, and General Finishing market segments, supporting Powder coating technologies. This role requires close collaboration with Marketing, Sales, and end customers to advance technologies and meet product performance and warranty expectations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Communicating effectively and promptly with managers, customers, vendors, and other stakeholders. This includes delivering formal and informal presentations as needed.
Analyzing data to identify trends, resolve customer issues, and assess information for project advancement.
Leading technically complex projects or multiple simpler projects with minimal supervisor input.
Establishing timelines and identifying resource needs to support project work.
Apply specialized knowledge/skills with polymers, adhesion, raw materials, instrumentation, extrusion, additives, and substrates to develop superior performance coatings and perform root cause analysis when problems arise.
May directly work with and mentor lower-level chemists or technicians to support team project goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
Bachelors degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
Minimum of 5 years in coatings or polymer research and/or development
Understands extrusion and dispersion
Full-scale manufacturing experience of coatings and/or polymers
Understands instrumentation and test methods needed to quantify behavior of coatings/ polymers.
History of mentoring less experienced chemists
Able to adapt and change quickly in response to new situations/demands
Ability to color match visually and with the assistance of color equipment.
Good project management skills
Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis
Proven problem-solving and decision-making ability.
Ability to adapt and change quickly in response to new situations/demands.
Design of Experiment
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Advanced Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Polymer Science
10+ years in coating or polymer research and development
Experience in data visualization software to analyze large datasets.
Experience at designing, executing and analyzing experimental studies to characterize formulation impact on product performance
Understands synthesis of polyester and epoxy resins
Exhibit an in depth understanding of coating formulation and how it relates to coating requirements
Liquid and powder spray systems utilizing robotic equipment a plus.
Proficient in statistics and data analysis

Travel Requirements: 30%
