Job Duties:
Perform laboratory testing, verifying results using knowledge of principles, QC, and instruments, and interpret results based on physiology. Perform and report all assigned tests with expected precision and accuracy and obtain blood or other body fluid from patients. Collect blood specimens utilizing the appropriate venipuncture, capillary fingerstick, or heelstick technique with patients of all age groups including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Set up cultures, read gram stains, and perform rapid kit testing in Microbiology. Accurately identify patients prior to collection of specimens using two patient identifiers and accurately label the specimens in the presence of the patient as established by laboratory policy. Provide competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments. Record all required quality control results. Operate computer equipment and software programs relative to performance of essential job functions and other laboratory related requirements. Maintain and appropriate inventory of supplies in the assigned area. Prepare reagents or media in prescribed manner. Perform all duties and responsibilities as outlined in CLIA regulations. Follow established standard work practices and use established safety precautions. Support and abide by all medical center, departmental, and safety policies and procedures. Proactively identify safety concerns surrounding the work environment.

Required Minimum Position Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology, or foreign equivalent.

Required License(s)/Certification(s): Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist (MLS/MT) registry with the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required or completed within two years of hire. Basic Life Support certification (BLS Health Provider, American Heart Association; or Professional Rescuer-LIVE, American Red Cross).
