Description of Job: Contribute to Research & Development and Product Support at Valent BioSciences by executing various analytical chemistry methods and studies to quantify active ingredients and related impurities in R&D formulations, manufactured products and microbial fermentations. Work with a team of formulation chemists, fermentation scientists, and analytical chemists to develop and troubleshoot biorational products for agriculture, animal health and public health businesses as well as other Sumitomo Chemical sectors.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Execute analytical methods to measure target molecules and related impurities in R&D formulations, manufactured products and microbial fermentations using instruments such as HPLC, LC-MS and LC-MS/MS.
  • Conduct data analyses, prepare reports with conclusions and recommendations, and present results as needed.
  • Participate in troubleshooting assays and analytical methodology, propose process and method improvements.
  • Execute general laboratory housekeeping including chemical management, dishwashing and sterilization.
  • Maintain laboratory documents including electronic lab notebook and SOPs.
  • Conduct all work in strict compliance with all applicable safety requirements, containment requirements, standards operating procedures and/or guidelines.
  • Maintain good laboratory practices (equipment, supplies, glassware, contamination, etc.).
  • Work independently and with interdisciplinary research teams while maintaining a positive and collaborative environment.

Required skills/experience:

  • Passion for the expanding field of agricultural chemistry, especially as it relates to the development of novel products and sustainable solutions.
  • Familiar with analytical assays on HPLC, LC-MS and LC-MS/MS instruments is desirable
  • Foundational understanding of microbial biochemistry and working with fermentation samples would be beneficial.
  • Works well in cross-functional teams, especially with formulation and analytical chemists.
  • Strong communication, presentation and listening skills.
  • Will support and foster a culture of diversity and inclusion.

Education: B.S. in chemistry or related life science is required, with 0-3 years of related experience.

Travel: Limited travel will be required. ( What We Offer

Base Salary: The estimated annual base salary for this position ranges from:

$61,200 - $73,400. Individual pay is based upon location, skills, experience, and other relevant factors.

Incentives: All full-time employees are eligible for an incentive program or profit-sharing program in addition to their base salary.
