- Initiate project concepts and develop objectives.
- Plan and assign priorities for multiple projects.
- Independently investigate and resolve research problems and scale-up issues.
- Communicate technical, regulatory, and performance aspects with customers.
- Utilize and follow relevant legal requirements, regulations, and product development standards.
- Determine and perform appropriate cost reductions in raw materials.
- Scale-up approved formulations, identifying critical process variables.
- Troubleshoot production issues and address batch variations.
- Set product specifications and write compounding procedures.
- Supervise and coordinate pilot batches.
- Provide paperwork for new formulas and raw materials to operations.
- Supply specifications and information to Quality Control for testing new ingredients and finished goods.
- Test stabilities and monitor testing statuses.
- Research product formulations and properties, and interactions of raw materials.
- Conduct vendor research for raw materials and check ingredient lists, QQs, and artwork.
- Interpret laboratory findings and assess risks in new products, communicating findings to sales and upper management.
- Stay informed on trends in the retail market and formulations materials, ingredients, etc.
- Train and supervise lab staff, both permanent and temporary.
- 10+ years experience in formulating personal care products, specifically sunscreen.
- Working knowledge of laboratory equipment setup and operation, common laboratory techniques, and safe chemical handling.
- Advanced formulation skills and technical knowledge.
- Thorough understanding of FDA regulations and cGMPs.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- High level of initiative, innovation, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and at all levels within the organization, including senior leadership.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and manage deadlines.
- Effective and professional communication with clients and vendors.
- Exceptional attention to detail, high level of accuracy, and organization.

This position is based on-site in Eagan, MN, and reports directly to the VP of R&D. The work environment involves collaboration with cross-functional teams, including senior leadership, and requires adaptability to a fast-paced setting.
