Job Summary:
The Senior Process Engineer is responsible for coordinating and directing activities involved in the implementation and completion of projects/contracts including, but not limited to, design, scheduling, construction, business expansion or retention, budgets, and construction compliance. This position collaborates closely with the Director of Manufacturing, EH&S personnel, and is a member of the NASA Supply Chain team. This position reports to the Senior Director Supply Chain - NASA.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Manage, organize, coordinate, and monitor activities/functions of development projects in cooperation with other departments and outside agencies, contractors, and design professionals.
Analyze and prepare written reports on program/project performance using graphs, diagrams, and other project management techniques.
Creation of design and specification documents for chemical production equipment
Develop program/project budgets, schedules, work plans, and cost estimates/projections.
Participate in the negotiation of bids/contracts received from clients/contractors.
Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively/jointly to provide quality customer service.
Write prompt and accurate reports, organize meetings, and make presentations as may be necessary.
Approach engineering problems with a management-level approach when considering the needs of the business.
Liaison with APD on all testing and data requirements to ensure accuracy.
Manage and accumulate waste including hazardous waste by following appropriate procedures in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.
Other duties and tasks assigned.
Required / Desired Knowledge, Experiences and Skills:
Minimum 5 years of related full-time work experience at a chemical company
Experience in working with a Management of Change process
Motivated, self-starter, accepting of responsibility
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organization, analytical, and problem solving skills
Ability to read, interpret, and create P&IDs and engineering documentation
Familiarity with hazard analysis and chemical process safety principles
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Proficient in Microsoft Office software, especially with Excel spreadsheets/graphs
Ability to develop effective working relationships
Ability to plan/manage complex projects
Ability to meet deadlines
Must be flexible and detail oriented
Ability to priorities and meet deadlines
Knowledge of Delta-V preferred, but not required
Knowledge of Microsoft Project a plus, but not required
Ability to travel domestically and internationally as may required to attend meetings, training, etc. (Approximately 5% or less of time)
Prior Six Sigma training a plus, but not required
Education/Certifications:
Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or another related field required.
Physical Working Environment:
The position works in a climate-controlled office environment as well as a climate-controlled manufacturing/warehouse area and requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
Position requires 5%-10% domestic travel, with possible 5% international travel - must have or be able to obtain a passport.
Along with other engineers and members of the staff, be available after normal business hours / weekends / holidays in the event of emergencies.
