This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite in La Jolla and remote.

DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, the incumbent will be responsible for assisting in recruiting, screening, interviewing and testing participants who have bipolar disorder for a longitudinal cohort study within the Department of Psychiatry. The UC San Diego site is one of 10 U.S. sites in the Breakthrough Discoveries for thriving with Bipolar Disorder (BD2) Integrated Network which aims to study participants with bipolar disorder over time using identical methods at each site and contribute the gathered data to a central Learning Health Network that will benefit patients in the study through quality improvements to their clinical care. Duties and responsibilities include identifying and recruiting participants from a variety of sources, including UC Health clinics and community providers and programs. The incumbent will make presentations and communicate by email, on the phone, and in person with potential sources of recruitment, and will prepare and distribute recruitment materials. Assist with other project and miscellaneous tasks as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Theoretical knowledge in psychology or related field. Background in the general field of psychology and mental illness.

  • Experience working with mentally ill individuals, including those demonstrating psychotic and mood symptoms. Ability to demonstrate good clinical judgment.

  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience with magnetic resonance imaging data collection.

  • Proven ability to support the day-to-day work of the laboratory. Ability to modify, vary, adapt, or improve upon standard procedures to meet the needs of the research projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify solutions, and with PI’s supervision, recommend and implement solutions.

  • Proven ability to work in fast paced environment with multiple demands.

  • Good written and oral communication skills with an ability to communicate information to a broad variety of people both in person and on the phone.

  • Keen behavioral observation skills.

  • Proven ability to work independently, use own judgment and decision-making skills with little supervision.

  • Strong demonstrated ability to maintain patient confidentiality.

  • Demonstrated experience in the administration of neuropsychological tests and clinical rating scales.

  • Proven ability to elicit maximum performance of neuropsychological tests and clinical rating scales.

  • Experience in retaining subjects over the course of a research study through outreach.

  • Experience in human subject recruitment and screening.

  • Familiarity with data management methods and standard operating procedures for entering and maintaining data.

  • Familiarity with installation and operation of mobile assessment apps and wrist-worn actigraphy.

  • Experience with coordination of storage, shipping, and record-keeping for biological specimens.

  • Knowledge of IRB Standard Operating Policies and Procedures.

  • User level experience with computers. Ability to run software and use databases such as Epic Access.

  • Proven ability to prepare and present study materials and results for reports and scientific meetings.

  • Basic statistical analysis knowledge and skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage purchasing and inventory for a research laboratory.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's Degree in psychology or related field.

  • Record keeping and file management skills. Extremely detail oriented and conscientious, with legible handwriting and good spelling skills.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Must be willing to work directly with mentally ill and/or individuals with a psychotic disorder.

  • Must be willing to work occasional overtime, weekends and have a flexible schedule as needed.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $55,374 - $66,064 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $26.52 - $31.64

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
