Basic Function
The Development Engineer will support the Development and Performance Engineering team to develop or acquire large-scale solar photovoltaic ("PV") and energy storage projects from project development through the commencement of construction. Their multi-faceted role will provide technical support for projects, including project technical due diligence, engineering, optimization, equipment evaluation and production modelling. The role will require collaboration with Development, Procurement, and Investment teams - cross functional abilities are a must.
Responsibilities:
- Develop preliminary layouts of utility-scale solar PV and energy storage projects and generate buildable area constraints through collaboration with internal and external teams.
- Optimize project design by using a working knowledge of module, inverter, racking, and battery energy storage system ("BESS") specifications and design techniques.
- Support early-stage due diligence and engagements with external party engineering and environmental consultants.
- Contribute to the management of a development engineering budget.
- Generate engineering inputs for business development proposals.
- Perform PV production modelling and energy storage dispatch studies.
- Conduct site visits to support the project development and design.
- Contribute to technical evaluations of new and innovative technologies.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor or Master of Sciences degree.
- 3-6 + years of experience with utility scale PV and/or energy storage system design and construction support.
- Strong preference for design experience in MISO and PJM.
- Experience in MS Office and PVSyst (or equivalent energy modelling software).
- Experience in AutoCAD, with experience in automation tools (ex. PVCase) preferred.
- Strong engineering, design, communication skills, and ability to work in a dynamic team environment.
- Knowledge of utility-scale solar and/or storage project design and optimization tradeoffs, typical technical specifications, and costs.
- Experience with PV production modelling including post-processing techniques.
- Demonstrated technical problem solving through innovation and exposure to the impacts of civil and geotechnical risks on PV design.
- Looking for long-term growth potential within a company.
- Familiarity with development studies such as environmental site assessment, wetland delineation, ALTA, hydrology, topography, and interconnection.
Location: Denver, CO or Redwood City, CA required. We have a hybrid office setup (Denver, CO strongly preferred).
The position requires approximately 25% domestic travel.
Base Pay - $110,000 - $130,000
The pay range mentioned above is a guideline. We tailor each offer based on your unique skills, experience, location, and market benchmarks-while ensuring internal parity across our team. In addition to competitive base pay, total compensation may include a discretionary annual bonus, a long-term incentive plan aligned with our ownership mindset, and a market leading comprehensive health and wellness benefits package.
