UL is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Analytical Chemist. The role requires expertise in Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) and Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) to support research, development, and quality control initiatives.

This is an onsite role required 5 days in the lab in Research Triangle Park.

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience with ICP-MS and/or LC-MS required.
  • Experience with method development required.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high quality and exceptional customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully partner with Engineering and other Laboratory Personnel to complete projects in a timely manner with high quality.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze special testing needs. Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor more junior laboratory staff.
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact with customers
  • Proven ability to be innovative and creative
  • Desire to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite is a must
  • Ability to incorporate automation into day-to-day testing

  • Perform complex analyses using ICP-MS and LC-MS to characterize and quantify compounds in diverse samples.
  • Develop, optimize, and validate robust analytical methods for trace element and compound analysis, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  • Interpret and report analytical data with a high degree of precision, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and guidelines.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot ICP-MS and LC-MS instruments, performing calibrations and preventative maintenance to ensure optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with engineering, lab staff and management to support projects and communicate analytical findings effectively.
  • Ensure strict adherence to laboratory safety protocols, quality management systems per GLP and regulatory standards (i.e. ISO , ASTM, and USP).
  • Document all analytical procedures and results meticulously, preparing technical reports and contributing to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Laboratory Procedural Guides (LPG).
  • Provide technical support and training to junior staff and colleagues, fostering a culture of learning and development within the laboratory.
  • Engage in continuous improvement efforts, staying abreast of new analytical technologies and industry best practices in ICP-MS and LC-MS.
  • Manage laboratory supplies and ensure proper inventory levels.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support laboratory operations.
