Scientist 3, Genomics Technologies Group
- Genentech
- South San Francisco, California
- Full Time
Innovating for a healthier future is our driving force. We are committed to continuously advancing science, ensuring everyone has access to the healthcare they need now and for generations to come. Our goal is to create a world where we can enjoy more time with our loved ones.
The PGT (Proteomic and Genomic Technologies) department is seeking a creative, rigorous, and motivated Scientist 3 to join the Genomics technologies group. We are looking for a skilled molecular biologist to drive the next wave of innovation in functional genomics. This role will focus on technology development, primarily pioneering and advancing single-cell CRISPR-based genetic perturbation screens.
The successful candidate will be a hands-on laboratory scientist who conceives, develops, and optimizes novel single-cell multi-omic technologies. You will be instrumental in creating powerful new tools to interrogate complex biological systems, working in a highly collaborative environment with colleagues in Research, Translational Medicine, and Computational Sciences to apply these methods to critical research questions.
The Opportunity
Spearhead the design, development, and optimization of novel technologies for single-cell multi-omics, with a primary focus on high-throughput genetic perturbation screens.
Apply your expertise in molecular biology to establish and benchmark cutting-edge Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) based assays.
Work with both short- and long-read sequencing platforms to solve complex technical challenges.
Interpret and analyze intricate genomics data utilizing established or newly developed analysis tools.
Effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to apply newly developed technologies to impactful research projects across Genentech.
Communicate your innovative work through scientific publications and presentations at internal and external meetings.
Who You Are
You hold a Doctorate degree in a relevant field, such as Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline.
Postdoctoral or industry experience in a similar technology development role is required.
You have a proven track record in molecular biology and a deep understanding of single-cell genomics. Your expertise is centered on developing and running single-cell multiomic assays with an emphasis on CRISPR-based genetic perturbation screens.
You are proficient with a wide range of modern molecular biology techniques and have hands-on experience with NGS library preparation especially downstream of single-cell genomics assays.
You have demonstrated familiarity with both short-read (e.g., Illumina) and long-read (e.g., PacBio, Oxford Nanopore) sequencing technologies.
You are an excellent communicator with strong oral and written presentation skills.
You possess the ability to think critically, lead projects, and collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Expertise in single-cell and functional genomics is required.
A sustained record of productivity in the form of impactful publications and/or patents.
Preferred
Hands-on experience with computational analysis and interpretation of genomic data (using R and/or Python) is a plus.
