Meet the team: The Sensor Design and Characterization group within the Research and Development (R&D) organization is responsible for designing and developing innovative sensor technologies from concept through commercialization. These technologies play a critical role in enhancing the accuracy, reliability, and robustness of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems. In addition, the team supports sensor product development by conducting comprehensive characterization and validation at both the subsystem and product levels. As a key contributor to the team, the Senior Scientist will lead the identification and development of next-generation sensor techniques and architectures aimed at elevating Dexcom's best-in-class CGM user experience. This individual will collaborate across a broad range of functional areasincluding R&D, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, and Clinical Affairsto drive continuous product improvement and define technology specifications for future innovations in the R&D pipeline. These efforts will directly support advancements in diabetes care and further Dexcom's mission to empower people to take control of their health". Where you come in: You will lead proof-of-concept initiatives for biosensor and electrochemical technologies, guiding them from initial concept through clinical and commercial feasibility. You will design and execute benchtop and in-vivo experiments to evaluate both existing and emerging CGM technologies at the component and system levels. You will apply statistical methods to analyze large datasets, assess system performance, identify critical parameters, and evaluate trade-offs. You will iterate on designs using sound scientific principles, recommending solutions that improve accuracy, reliability, flexibility, or functionality. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project milestones efficiently, proactively managing interdependencies. You will provide technical leadership in areas such as design validation, reliability testing, root cause analysis, and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA). You will communicate findings through clear oral presentations and well-structured written reports to both peers and leadership. You will contribute to intellectual property development by drafting invention disclosures and supporting patent filings. What makes you successful: You have a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. You have a strong technical foundation in the design and characterization of biosensors, electrochemical systems, or implantable devicespreferably within the medical device industry. You have a demonstrated history of innovation and success in solving complex scientific and engineering challenges. You have hands-on experience working in a wet lab environment. You are proficient with statistical and data analysis tools such as JMP, Origin, Python, or R. You possess a strong work ethic and excellent organizational skills. You have outstanding scientific communication skillsboth verbal and writtenand excel in collaborative environments.
