Civil Engineer, Land Development Director

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Civil Engineer to join our Civil Engineering Department as Director of Engineering. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to design excellence, manage project deadlines, establish and maintain client relationships, and inspire a high level of performance from the team.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and coordinate projects with limited supervision.
  • Understand, review, and participate in preparing proposals.
  • Calculate and review costs and time schedules for proposed work.
  • Effectively manage and assign duties and schedules to team members.
  • Check all technical work for accuracy.
  • Exceed client expectations and foster client relationships through collaboration and problem-solving.
  • Communicate with clients weekly to provide project status and updates.
  • Recommend changes to the client as required and as approved by the Department/Project Manager.
  • Keep logs of client contacts.
  • Ensure Individual and Department QA/QC procedures are followed.
  • Fully permit and ensure entitlements of projects, including rezoning, special use permits, conditional use permits, site plan approvals, and required construction drawing approvals and permits.
  • Supervise Civil Designers assigned to projects/teams, ensuring all responsibilities are carried out efficiently and effectively.
  • Assist in reviewing and processing invoices for assigned projects and sub-consultants.
  • Engage in business development by maintaining existing client relationships and acquiring new contacts through attendance at local meetings, workshops, and social events.

Essential Skills

  • BSCE and Professional Licensure or Pursuing.
  • 5+ years of experience on various site design projects, including retail, commercial, and public sector projects.
  • Specific design experience with site layout, grading, storm drainage, stormwater management, water & sewer utilities, and erosion control.
  • Familiarity with entitlement processes and local permitting regulations.
  • Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D 2015 or newer, Hydraflow Storm Sewers/Hydrographs/Express Extensions, WaterCAD, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective collaboration skills.
  • Team player with a willingness to adapt and learn new responsibilities and tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in residential layouts, planning, and engineering.
  • Skills in civil design, Autocad Civil 3D, land development, site development, and municipal engineering.

This is a Permanent position based out of Durham, North Carolina.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $100000.00/yr.
