Position Summary
The newly formed Genetic Medicine Technology group in gRED (Genentech Research and Early Development) is redefining the future of cell and gene therapies. Our proprietary non-viral gene delivery and gene editing platforms, including piggyBac and Cas-CLOVER, enable the development of next-generation CAR-T therapies with the potential to cure cancer and genetic diseases.
We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Scientist 3 with a strong background in immunology and CAR-T cell therapy to join our dynamic research team. This individual will lead efforts in screening novel CAR constructs, executing functional assays, and evaluating efficacy in preclinical in vivo models. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with LNP transduction, flow cytometry, cytokine profiling, and mouse tumor models, and will serve as a Principal Investigator (PI) on in vivo studies.
The Opportunity:
- Advance platform development for a CAR-T cell therapy program from concept through preclinical validation.
- Design, execute, and analyze in vitro functional assays (e.g., T cell activation, cytokine secretion, antigen-specific suppression/expansion) to evaluate CAR-T activity and specificity.
- Screen and optimize CAR constructs for efficacy, antigen specificity, safety, and persistence, using flow cytometry, cytokine profiling, and molecular assays.
- Design and oversee in vivo studies in murine oncology and autoimmune models, including disease induction, CAR-T delivery, monitoring pharmacodynamics, and assessing therapeutic outcomes (clinical scores, histopathology, immunophenotyping).
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the CAR-T platform, identifying key readouts and establishing preclinical assays to enable rapid iteration and data-driven decision-making.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with vector engineering, non-viral delivery, and translational teams to align CAR design and delivery approaches with program goals.
- Analyze and interpret complex datasets, prepare clear reports, and present findings in internal program meetings, cross-functional reviews, and governance updates.
- Contribute to external publications, conference abstracts, and patent filings relevant to CAR-T development for autoimmune indications.
- Maintain accurate and detailed experimental records in compliance with company standards and ensure high data integrity.
Who you are:
- Ph.D. in Immunology, Cell Biology, or related field with a minimum of 3 years (strong preference for 5 to 7 years) of relevant postdoctoral or industry experience. Strong background in autoimmunity is a plus.
- Proven expertise in CAR-T cell biology, T cell functional assays, and immune cell profiling.
- Experience with LNP delivery systems and non-viral gene transfer is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with relevant mouse models used in immune-oncology research (syngeneic models, patient-derived xenograft in humanized mice) is highly desirable.
- Strong data analysis skills and familiarity with software such as FlowJo, GraphPad Prism, and statistical tools.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
The Scientist 3 Immunology & CAR-T Cell Therapy Pay Rate: $88,000 to $163,700 annually
The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type, and length of experience with the industry, education, geographic location, etc.
