As a Principal Materials Engineer in the Plastics Center for Innovation (PCI), you will drive new material formulation and technology initiatives that give Sabert a competitive edge in the marketplace. You will play a pivotal role in cost optimization, new product development and advancing companys profitability and sustainability goals. Your day-to-day will include but is not limited to:

What is my day to day like ?

  • Leading projects in areas of Plastic, Paper and molded fiber materials, manufacturing and new product development.
  • Supporting extrusion, compounding and thermoforming projects at R&D center and plants.
  • Evaluation of coating materials and manufacturing technologies for Paper and Molded Fiber.
  • Designing experiments, interpreting test results, publishing detailed technical reports and reviewing with Senior Management
  • Troubleshooting customer complaints and plant processing issues using in-house analytical techniques.
  • Identifying and evaluating new technologies that support Saberts sustainability initiati
  • Attending trade shows and conferences to stay current on developing and emerging technologies/trends.
  • Developing platform technologies in support of future customer needs identified by Sales and Marketi

What makes a person successful in this posi tion?

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Polymers or Paper Science; Masters degree preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in Research & Development or Technical role
  • 5+ years of experience in Pulp and Paper coating materials, chemistry, performance evaluation and application methods
  • Working experience in extrusion and thermoforming industries is a plus
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in Polymer processing, properties and product development, specifically related to Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET), Polypropylene ( PP)and Bio Polymers
  • Hands-on experience in using analytical techniques such as DSC, TGA, FTIR and Rheometer etc
  • Understand global food contact regulations and their impact on material selection for North America, Europe and Asian markets.

What is the work schedule? This is a full ti me posi ti on scheduled for 40 hours a week Monday-Friday; our typical office hours are 8:30am-5:00pm. While our corporate office enjoys a hybrid schedule with 3 in office days and 2 remote days, some flexibility may be needed depending on trial and tes ti ng needs.
