Position Summary: Advanced Materials Engineer - Metallurgy
Location: Nashua, NH
Amphenol High Speed Products Group is the market leader for high speed, highbandwidth electrical connectors for the Telecom/Datacom market (Mobile Networks,Storage, Servers, Routers, Switches, etc.). Our products help to enable theelectronics revolution and remain a key enabler for all the major Tier 1 OEMsglobally. Our global headquarters are located in Nashua, NH and we have design,sales and manufacturing locations globally. We are currently seeking anexperienced Advanced Materials Engineer - Metallurgy. In this role, you willprovide the lead in supporting the development of new products and processes,develop enabling plating and material technologies, perform failure analysis,and interface with suppliers and customers. The position will be located inNashua, NH.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop new products and processes via mechanical testing, analyticalmethods and characterization of electrical connectors, cabling and components.Collaborate with product designers in evaluating integrity of: platingsystems, base materials, soldering, and welding.Develop accelerated test methods to ensure reliability of plating and basematerials.Collaborate with internal and external suppliers and manufacturingpersonnel, supporting the development and validation of product prototypes thrupilot production, as well as interfacing with customersSupport plating development in manufacturing including materials andprocesses for cable and connector products.Perform failure analysis and recommend corrective actions.Process and analyze testing results, and create reports and presentationsfor internal and external customersPrepare test samples and test requests.Research, evaluate and recommend materials to develop enabling technologiesfor future product development.Develop test plans and design of experiments to support product developmentand qualification.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced degree in Material Science Engineering specializing in platingtechnology (MS with 3+ years experience or PhD is preferred)Experience with plating, welding and soldering processes.Experience with materials analysis (ie, SEM, microscopy, XRF, metallography,hardness, stress relaxation, creep and wear test methods)Experience with solid modeling tools - Pro/E and or SolidWorksExperience with data analysis software, including Design of ExperimentsAbility to communicate with technical & non-technical peopleAbility to work in team environmentAbility to travel as needed to other Amphenol sites, suppliers and customersDesire to create and design new products and processesBasic understanding of electrical connectors
