Research Associate

Department Overview

The Research Associate will be responsible for designing and performing experimental protocols independently, to generate publication quality data. Skills in immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, PCR, and a strong background in animal research and/or immunology, as well as animal handling, are required. Additional responsibilities include training new staff and interns on protocols and procedures. Highly motivated individuals with strong verbal and written communication skills, an interest working in a collaborative team environment, and who utilize innovative problem-solving to achieve scientific objectives are encouraged to apply. Position offers future opportunities for scientific collaboration, primary research, and manuscript authorship.

The Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine provides expert care for patients with lung diseases and critically ill patients in our Intensive Care Units. We are committed to innovative research and exceptional education.

Function/Duties of Position

• Conducting and analyzing scientific research, preparation of written reports

• Maintenance of lab equipment and facilities, training of staff and interns regarding protocols and procedures

• Laboratory animal management

• Other general lab duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Masters degree in relevant field AND 3 years of relevant experience OR

• Bachelors degree in relevant field AND 5 years of relevant experience.

• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at one time in a fast-moving environment.

• Handling and working with laboratory animals.

• Immunohistochemistry, RT-PCR, flow cytometry, and/or confocal microscopy.

• Experience in molecular biology, immunology, pharmacology, and/or neurobiology.

• Excellent communication skills, as are analytical and organizational skills.

• Ability to work independently.

• Advanced knowledge of research practices.
• Ability to contribute to the development of experiment methodology.
• Ability to work with occasional supervision.
• Ability to perform the job duties with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD or more than 5 years of relevant experience.
• Excellent communication skills, as are analytical and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently.

• Lab record keeping.

Additional Details

8:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday. Evenings and weekends may be required on rare occasions. Work is primarily conducted on the Marquam Hill campus in a scientific laboratory (wet bench) as well as a rodent husbandry environment.
