Certifying Scientist
We are seeking a talented Certifying Scientist to join our laboratory team in Indianapolis,
IN. The Certifying Scientist ensures legal defensibility of scientific data generated in a
technical, high volume, laboratory operation. This position is primarily responsible for the
initial and secondary review of data produced on Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometers
(LCMSMS) instrumentation, in addition to the final analytical review and release of Final Result
reports.
Duties include but are not limited to: Initial review of calibration curves and QC data, evaluating
donor results against acceptance criteria, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting, feedback to
the confirmations team on instrument performance, communication with upstream departments, record
keeping and enforcement of acceptance criteria policies and procedures.
This position reports to the Confirmations Manager.
The schedule for this role is Tues-Saturday. 8AM-4:30PM
Essential Functions:
? Initial daily startup of instrumentation including daily maintenance
? Loading prepared confirmations batches on instrumentation
? Initial review of Confirmation data from LCMSMS instrumentation
? Final review and release of confirmation data
? Final report review and release
? Provide feedback to maintenance team on assay integrity and performance
? Conducts daily/weekly/monthly maintenance in accordance with standard operating procedure
guidelines
? Provides troubleshooting and minor instrument repair as needed
? Prepares standards and reagents for the confirmations department as needed
? Assists with research and development efforts
? Responsible for meeting minimum productivity requirements
? Adheres to forensic documentation handling and chain of custody procedures and
requirements
? Applies knowledge and skills to produce quality work and facilitate meeting TAT goals
? Directs efforts towards production areas that need assistance
? Personal accountability for attendance, productivity, training, and technical incidents
? Collaborate with operations leadership to solve work-related problems within or between
departments and sites, answering and resolving questions/issues daily
? Participates in employee training for equipment, software, and other laboratory
operations.
? Assist leadership with auditing and maintaining for the Certifying department: SOPs,
regulations, best practices, guidelines, standards, policies, and procedures in coordination with
the Scientific Director and Laboratory manager
? Complies with all policies, procedures, standards, guidelines, and best practices for: Clinical
Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), the College of American Pathologists (CAP), safety,
environmental, hazardous materials, equipment, and security
? Ensure that all work is complete, accurate and meets our high-quality standards
? Responsible to maintain all safeguards as it pertains to Protected health information
(PHI)

? Special projects as assigned
? All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
? Possess a bachelor?s degree in a science field (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology,
Pre-med (Biomed), & some specialty majors (Forensics or Toxicology) depending on the amount of
science credits completed) required plus 2-year lab experience
? Previous experience (2+ years) with chromatography evaluation and certification of results
required
? Experience with both Agilent and Waters LCMSMS platforms, operation and maintenance
preferred
? Knowledge of CAP and CLIA desirable
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
? High degree of computer literacy
? Knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems software
? Knowledge of CLIA and CAP (highly desirable)
? Medical terminology (highly desirable)
