Job Summary: Required:
* Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Environmental Lab Science, or related field (Must submit copy of diploma or transcripts with application)
* Minimum of 1 year demonstrated experience in water quality analysis and chemistry
* Experience with MS Office computer software (Experience in LIMS software is preferred)
* Adhere to employer's Alcohol and Drug Free Workplace policy
* Accept responsibility of a mandatory reporter
* Indian and Tribal Preference will apply, as per policy (Must submit tribal documentation with application to qualify for Indian Preference)
Preferred:
* Bachelor's Degree in the chemical, environmental, biological sciences, physical sciences or engineering, with at least 24 college semester credit hours in chemistry and at least 2 years of experience in the environmental analysis of inorganic and organic analytes for which the laboratory seeks or maintains accreditation is preferred OR a Master's or Doctoral Degree in one of the above disciplines may be substituted for one year of experience
* Minimum of 16 college semester credit hours in chemistry AND at least 2 years of experience performing such analysis
Summary:
The primary purposes of the Chemist position are 1) to assist the Lead Chemist in the day to day operations of the SRWQL and 2) prepare for, and in participate in, biennial assessments of the Laboratory by Oregon's Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ORELAP), required for maintaining the Lab's accreditation through this agency. Work typically involves conducting analyses using lab instrumentation to quantify nutrient, chlorophyll a, microcystin, and sediment concentration using USGS, EPA and Standard Method protocols for surface water samples from rivers, wetlands and lakes. Analytical equipment and includes: Fisher Thermo Gallery Plus discrete analyzers, Turner Designs fluorometers (10-AU and Trilogy), a Versa Max microplate reader, and Mettler Toledo analytical balances. Work flows are tracked using Laboratory Information Management System software, and involve evaluating and ensuring the quality of the results to meet the most current ORELAP quality standards.
