Laboratory Technician

This role will provide hands on physical support for both teaching and research laboratories in the Departments of Chemistry & Biochemistry and also Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ordering supplies and chemicals
  • Managing chemical inventory
  • Disposal of laboratory waste
  • Preparation and sterilization of buffers and media
  • Maintenance of equipment and instrumentation
  • Assisting with research and teaching laboratory set-up and clean-up
  • Managing organization and safety protocols of the pharmaceutical sciences research lab

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Organizational skills
  • Proficient written and oral communication (English)
  • Professionalism
  • Ability to work with different people to meet specific goals

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in biochemistry or related field
  • At least two years' experience in a laboratory setting
  • Experience in ordering chemicals and supplies
  • Experience in inventory management
  • Some experience in a pharmaceutical lab
  • Experience in maintenance of equipment and instrumentation
  • Experience in laboratory safety organization and disposal of lab waste
  • Knowledge of the use of computer software, including email, spreadsheets, presentation, instrumentation interfaces
