Position Summary
McCormick and Co. is looking for a Senior Principal Scientist - Savory. This role will lead a team of Flavorists and Scientists to support the growth of the Savory Segment of the McCormick Food Business Unit, focusing on brief execution and customer relationships, team development, and innovation. Additionally, this role will work with cross-functional partners to ensure appropriate scale-up of flavors and consult on pricing. This role will report to a Director II, Product Development and sit at our TIC location in Maryland.
Key Responsibilities
Lead development of the Savory flavors team ensuring resources for project brief execution.
Collaborate with Marketing and Sales to determine Savory Strategy
Present Savory capabilities to customers and act as liaison with key strategic customers
Responsible for setting goals and developing of team members
Support flavor development for internal consumer and Seasoning BUs
Develop innovative savory tools to solve current and future challenges in the Savory Food category
Qualifications
Minimum BS in Food Science/Technology, Food Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field with MS preferred.
Minimum of 20 years' experience in the field is required.
Recognized as a global technical leader in Savory product systems.
Successfully leads and/or represents the organization on important project teams, major committees, task forces, or other leading roles
Manages conflicts relating to technical issues and diverse viewpoints to add value
Leads evolutionary technology development
Demonstrates the ability to identify & analyze a poorly defined technology area, from both a technical and business perspective, and make recommendations to the corporation
Proactively identifies new areas of potential interest, develops idea to feasibility, develops proposals & presents to the business for decision
Demonstrates a significant record of creating knowledge that results in cost savings, capital savings or improved profitability
Identifies potential new applications
Networks with colleagues in other functions to develop multidisciplinary idea development
Communicates at high level of the organization to transfer results and the significance of results to customers
Champions & contributes to continuous improvement of major projects and programs
An in-depth understanding of ingredients and technology along with their impact on product taste and functionality
Knowledge of the food industry and key competitors, food ingredients, manufacturing processes, quality assurance programs and food regulations
Proficient in product development and commercialization across a wide variety of finished product application categories including industry-relevant experience.
Ability to communicate effectively through both written and oral communications with customers, and interdepartmental/cross-functional groups and business leaders as appropriate
Must be able to travel up to 25%

Base Salary: $140,610-253,080
Base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, experience for this role, and/or internal equity of our current employees as part of any final offer.
