The Manufacturing Scientist will be responsible for executing fermentation processes and protein purification tasks in a laboratory environment. This role involves hands-on work with bacterial cultures, lab equipment, and routine data documentation to support manufacturing and product development efforts.
Pay: $25-$30/hr, depending on experience
Key Responsibilities:
Operate a variety of fermenters, including batching, sterilization, inoculation, monitoring, harvesting, and cleaning processes
Handle and test bacterial cultures aseptically
Prepare chemical solutions, including acids and bases
Perform protein purification from bacterial sources using chromatographic techniques
Operate laboratory instruments following established standard operating procedures
Identify equipment malfunctions and perform basic routine maintenance
Accurately document work using appropriate data collection tools
Collaborate effectively within a team environment
Utilize Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) proficiently
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Microbiology or a related scientific field
Previous experience in fermentation and protein purification is preferred
Solid foundational laboratory skills, including:
Pipetting and aseptic technique
Use of biosafety cabinets and fume hoods
Spectrophotometric analysis
Autoclave operation
Willingness to work occasional nights and weekends as needed
Ability to work at a laboratory bench for extended periods
Capable of occasionally lifting up to 40 lbs
