The R D Senior Chemist will be responsible for developing proprietary emulsion polymers (acrylic, styrene/acrylic, and vinyl/acrylic) for various applications with a focus on the CASE market. This is a "hands-on" position and will work independently to conduct technical studies with general direction from the R D Director. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Safely perform bench polymerization and application evaluation to generate technical data for polymer products and formulation Maintain comprehensive, detailed record of all work performed per Good Laboratory Practices Work autonomously on multiple projects and provide written updates/reports/presentations of technical materials with limited review for internal teams, management, customers, and conferences Supervise scale-ups and provide manufacturing support to ensure safe and efficient transfer of newly developed polymers to production Assist production in process refinement with supporting laboratory work Work with all departments to develop, refine, and conduct technical projects to deliver a high level of customer satisfaction and profitable growth Serve as a technical resource for the facility in the absence of R D director Guide and mentor junior chemists/technicians as needed Adhere to company safety standards at all times Additional duties as assigned Traveling up to 10% SKILLS & ABILITIES Education: Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Polymer Sciences, or related disciplines required Experience: 2-5 years industrial experience in polymer synthesis and characterization Computer Skills: Microsoft Office 365 and ERP experience Supervisory Responsibilities: None Other Requirements: Experience using analytical techniques Experience working with manufacturing and technical service teams Familiarity with environmental and safety regulations
